I graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1993 with a B.A. in History after self designing a major in the History of Medicine.  I graduated from NIAOM (Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) in 1996 with a Master's Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  In addition, I have been licensed in Washington State as a massage therapist since 1987.  I am Nationally Board Certified in Acupuncture through NCCAOM, and have been licensed in Washington State as an acupuncturist since 1996.  I have additional training including Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acutonics, Clinical Aromatherapy, and Flower Essence Therapy.

In 1997 I was one of the first acupuncturists nationwide to participate in a hospital residency, at the UW Harborview Hospital.  Between 1997 and 2002 I worked in several different public health settings including Kang Wen Clinic for people with chronic illness, Country Doctor Clinic, and Evergreen Treatment Services.  This gave me experience with thousands of patients.  During these years I also maintained a private practice.  While at Evergreen, I was part of a research study examining the efficacy of acupuncture to treat cocaine addiction.  Since 2002, when I became a parent, I have been exclusively in private practice.

I have a special interest in supporting adults throughout the journey to parenthood.  I enjoy using the principles of East Asian Medicine to optimize health to enhance fertility, support a woman throughout pregnancy and preparation for birth, and to treat physical and psychological postpartum conditions.  In 2011, I completed a two day certificate course in the diagnosis and treatment of Post Partum Mood Disorders, which was offered through Postpartum Support International. In addition, I am one of the facilitators of a drop in postpartum support group, The Fourth Trimester, in North Seattle, which meets Wednesday mornings from 10:30- 12:00 at Swedish Ballard 5350 Tallman Ave NW, Seattle, 98107, http://www.the4thtrimesterseattle.com, www.facebook.com/the4thtrimester.

I am also a Founding Board Member of the Maternity Acupuncture Association http://www.maternityacupunctureassociation.org.

Having practiced massage therapy since 1987, I'm very familiar with treating musculoskeletal conditions.  I have found the combination of using distal acupuncture points combined with local manual therapy to be much more effective than either technique alone.  In addition to using acupuncture and massage techniques to address injury, overuse syndromes, and degenerative disease I often make nutritional suggestions, and use herbs, essential oils, and other treatments that are part of East Asian Medicine.  To treat Motor Vehicle Accidents, I've developed a research based protocol that is especially effective the sooner it is done after the accident - same day treatment is ideal.
